Photo-catalysis by nano-porous ceramics

About 25 years ago, titania (TiO2) was discovered to have photo-catalytic property under the radiation of uv light. Since then thousands of papers have been published world wide on titania. But until recently, several ceramic compounds, including metal doped titania, were found to be capable of photo-catalysis under visible light. Considering uv light only has around 10% of the visible light spectrum (energy), and uv LED is expensive, the research trends have shifted to these visible light photo-catalytic materials (WO3 and titania composites).

The following photos shows the decomposition of an organic chemical (colour change) after 60 min radiation with a conventional light. (left is a control)  ............(to be continued)
